Horace Nathan Richardson Jr, affectionately known as June, was born on June 18,1951 to Horace Sr and Ellen Richardson. He was the fourth of ten children.His early years were spent surrounded by family and friends in his neighborhood on the west side of Chicago. He attended elementary and middle school in Chicago Public Schools. In 1969, he moved with his siblings and his Uncle Gene to St. Paul, Minnesota in search of a better life and more opportunities. He graduated from Mechanic Arts High School in St. Paul in June of 1969. The home they settled in St. Paul was right next door to his future wife, Nancy Rhodes.
Horace and Nancy married in 1974. They welcomed their baby girl, Tiffany, in February of 1975. Shortly after her birth, Horace joined the army. He was stationed overseas in Germany until he was honorable discharged in June of 1978. Unfortunately, their marriage did not last, they divorce in 1980.
Following his military service, Horace continued to serve his country as a Federal Civilian Employee. He started his career as an IT officer in the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) in the Department of Justice. He continued to rise in the ranks through all of the agency’s name changes and development. He worked for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) in the Department of Homeland Security. He was responsible for development, installation, and training of the information technology used by these agencies. He supported the US government mission from coast to coast and abroad. He retired, after more than 40 years of service, on January 7, 2019, as a Computer Specialist.
Horace enjoyed traveling . He travelled to every region of the United States and abroad. He travelled around visiting family and friends. He loved to support everyone. He baked cakes for his coworkers. He went to every wedding, reunion, or funeral that he could. He showed up for the little things, too. If you needed help with a DIY project, he was your man. He loved shopping for clothes and movies. When he showed up anywhere you had better believe he was going to be dressed to the nines. He also loved movies, his DVD collection could rival Blockbuster.
Horace was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Sr and Ellen Richardson; sisters, Gera Richardson and Diane Haywood; brothers, Larry Richardson, Corneilus Richardson and Ronnie Richardson; grandson,Deylin Richardson. He is survived by his daughter, Tiffany Daniel;grandson, Edwin Daniel Jr; Sisters, Gloria Warrior, Barbara Ingram, and Carol Potter; Brother, Sidney White; as well as an aunt and numerous loving, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the National Kidney Foundation.
