Dorothy Brown Obituary

Dorothy M. Brown was born on January 26, 1950 in St. Louis, Missouri to Leroy Sr. and Daziree Brown.  She was the second oldest of nine (9) children.  Dorothy was preceded in death by both parents, (2) brothers: Karzell and Kenneth, and a grandson, Amontay.

Dorothy accepted and confessed her hope in Christ at an early age. She was baptized under the leadership of the late Rev. T.E. Huntley at Central Baptist Church.  She later joined Washington Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion under the leadership of Rev. Bishop Staccato Powell, Sr. and presently Rev. Dr. Anthony Witherspoon, where she was a faithful and devoted member for twenty-four (24) years.  She was a member of the Parent Body Missionary Society and attended Bible Study regularly.

Dorothy was educated in the St. Louis Public School System graduating in 1968.  After school she became employed in the nursing field working at Homer G. Phillips Hospital and City Hospital for twenty (20) years.  After retiring from the nursing field, she worked at Bridal Original and later at Tip Top Cleaners before leaving the workforce completely in 2013.

Dorothy lived and loved life to the fullest.  Some of her past time activities included shopping, weekend drives with her sisters, hanging out with family and friends, small talk conversation with neighbors, and watching her reality television shows.  You never had a dull moment when she was around; she was the life of the party. She was an outspoken jokester, but also the matriarch to her entire family. Unsolicited advice was a specialty of hers, but was equally supportive and a very good listener.  She loved to cook for her family and her home served as the gathering spot for most family gatherings during holiday season.

Dorothy was a wonderful mother to Sonya and Reginald. She spoiled them growing up, and her love for her them was unmatched. She was Grandmother to six beautiful grandchildren and two great grandchildren, whom she adored and they will miss her greatly.

Dorothy was a quiet giver. In addition to making sure everyone she knew received a monetary gift for their birthday, she also quietly gave to various local charities. Susan B. Komen Cancer Society, St. Louis American Lung Association, St. Jude’s, and American Heart Association, are just a few organizations that she donated to generously and regularly.

She leaves to cherish her memories;(1) son, Reginald (Palm City, Florida) (1) daughter, Sonya(Columbus, OH); (5) grandchildren; Rasheid, Malik, Iesha, Mahogany, and Eboni; (2) great-grandchildren, Lyric and Bailey; (4) sisters, Lemmie, Brenda, Sherri and Marla (Eric Sr.) of Atlanta, GA; (4) brothers, Leroy Jr. (LaWanda), Montell, Barry Sr. and Garry Sr.; (3) aunts, Adella Brown, Rheta J. Brown, and Deloris Guyton; (1) uncle, Commie White; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.  She also leaves to cherish her memories her many childhood and lifelong friends.
