Annette Smith Obituary

Annette Smith was born on December 4, 1961 to George Smith Sr. and Rosie Lee Myers who both preceded her in death. She joins her siblings Ophelia, George Jr., Timothy and Christina.

She received her education in St. Louis Public Schools. Through the years, Annette worked various jobs in Culinary Supervisory positions. Annette was a light and joy to everyone that was blessed to know her. Annette was a loyal friend, a talented poet and being requested to write for her church events and other venues made her very much appreciated and needed, and she was definitely okay with being needed or as she would say “called to order”. It was her way of believing that God was giving her an assignment. She took pride in everything she did especially her infamous peach cobblers and sweet potato pies. She would say, “you can taste the love can’t you” with a smile on her face from ear to ear!

Annette was truly a born-again Christian and would shout to the mountain tops about it. She was deeply rooted in and stood on God’s word. She understood the importance of not being religious but having a real relationship with God. On June 30, 2019, Annette was baptized for the third time in her life at her home church “The RODD Church” under the leadership of Pastor Carl Jackson. In her, resided a definite renewed spirit. She was blessed to go on a tour to The Holy Land in Jerusalem in October of 2019 where she was baptized (for the last time) in The River Jordan; and to much delight, brought home a capsule of the Holy water from the river (which she was most grateful for).

She loved taking her grandchildren to church and invited everybody she knew so they too would learn the beauty of living on God’s word and purpose and to know for self just how good God truly is. Annette dedicated countless volunteer hours serving her community as an Evangelist, Event Coordinator for Sista Strut, the STL Board of Election as a Judge, the Board of Council Person/Treasurer for Urban League, Sales Coordinator for St. Agatha’s Church of Catholic Diocese, Toys for Tots, the Women’s Ministry, children’s bible study teacher, and was a part time babysitter for several children who also called her “Granny.”

While always putting God first, who was truly the head of her life, her greatest accomplishment, besides her relationship with God, was her children and grandchildren. Annette was our biggest cheerleader and supporter. Whatever was in her reach to do to help make sure all was well, she did it. She over-extended herself at times but in her words, “I’m Good, God got ME!”

Annette was a very beautiful person (inside and out), smart, intelligent, loving, giving, caring, and compassionate. She had a smile that could light up a room and her laugh was contagious.

She leaves to cherish the memories of her physical being: her five children, Shimika Smith, Parence Smith, Roxie Harvey, Nicholas (Keisha) Brown, and Ebony Jones; her siblings, Patricia Smith, Joyce Valiant, Willie Smith, Freddie Barnes, DeMorris Stepp, Jermaine Stepp and Nicholas Thomas; her grandchildren, Darren (Kalion), Amelia, Ophelia, Chanelle, Joycelyn, Nylah, Na’Khiyah, Kailey, Bryson, Kamille, Zhikhiylah, and Zhiyaire, and a host of other family and friends.
